the story behind 'calcolo'

Calcolo Art began with something simple—
a lifelong pull toward creativity and a fascination with stones.
As a child, I collected them without knowing why…
drawn to their shape, their weight, their presence.
That instinct stayed with me—eventually leading me into photography and design, and later into something more intuitive… mandala painting.
What began as curiosity became a deeply personal practice.
Each piece is created slowly—one dot at a time—
where structure meets flow and repetition becomes meditation.
The process is just as important as the finished work—
each mark placed with intention and care.
My work is rooted in the belief that art is not only meant to be seen— but felt.
A moment of calm.
A point of focus.
A return to myself.
Now based in Colorado Springs, I’m surrounded daily by the kind of natural beauty that continues to shape and inspire my work.
Living in the mountains was once a distant dream—
one I reached by following what felt true.
That same energy lives within every piece I create.
The name Calcolo reflects both my heritage and my medium.
My father was 95% Italian and 5% Egyptian, and in honoring that lineage,
I chose an Italian word to represent my work.
Calcolo means “calculation.”
A grounding element.
A beginning point.
The origin of everything that follows.
And from that foundation, each mandala becomes something more—
a reflection of balance, intention, and the quiet beauty of being present.

Each piece begins with devotion
and becomes something to return to~

the woman who moves a mountain~ starts by carrying small stones.
